Bafana Bafana enter tournament as outright underdogs in Group A.

The entire world's attention will focused on South Africa for a month starting from June 11, but how will the hosts actually perform in the World Cup?

The odds suggest Bafana Bafana is up against it, but that won't stop local punters from putting a few rand on their boys at Bwin online sports book.

Bwin is quoting 7.50 on South Africa to win Group A, behind France, 2.00 and Uruguay and Mexico, who are quoted at 4.15 apiece.

But that isn't all in the way of betting options, with the bookmaker challenging punters to predict how many points and goals South Africa achieves in the group stage.

The home town boys are expected to come out with an attacking style of play, as shown by the 1.60 odds on them scoring three goals or more. Two goals or less is paying 2.20.

The most likely amount of points for the group stage is four (which could be enough to qualify, which is paying 3.80. Three points is paying 4.50 and two points is paying 7.50, while the full nine points is worth a huge 34.00.

In a head-to-head battle with Nigeria, who faces Argentina, Greece and Korea in Group B, South Africa is considered the underdog to score the most goals. Nigeria is paying 1.95, South Africa 2.65, and a tie 4.50.
